How does our organisation go about seeking approval to offer the BTEC Security Qualifications?
Prospective centres should complete an Expression of Interest Form and send it to security@edexcel.org.uk. We will then contact you and send the approval forms. Approval comprises two parts; centre approval and qualification approval. The two parts of the approval process are conjoined; you cannot seek centre approval without also seeking qualification approval. Bespoke centre approval forms are available for the:
BTEC Award in Door Supervision
BTEC Award in Vehicle Immobilisation
BTEC Award in Security Operations

Centres seeking approval for the BTEC Award in CCTV Operation (Public Space Surveillance) or the BTEC Certificate in Close Protection Operations must complete BTEC1 and BTEC2. Additionally centres seeking approval for the BTEC Certificate in Close Protection Operations must provide supplementary information on a bespoke approval form that is available upon request from security@edexcel.org.uk.
Once we are an approved centre how do we register candidates?
The BTEC qualifications for SIA licensing are administered by BTEC Gold, a division of Edexcel. Special registration and assessment arrangements are in place to support the exchange of information with the SIA. Upon approval you will be sent a copy of the BTEC Security Qualifications Centre Administration Pack; this contains the information you require to administer the BTEC qualifications.
How much does it cost to seek centre and qualification approval?
There is no charge for centre approval but those organisations that do not meet a minimum threshold of 50 registrations in their first year of approval may be subject to an administration charge.
How much does it cost to register and certificate candidates for the BTEC Security Qualifications?
Details of our registration fees are contained in the BTEC Security Qualifications Centre Administration Pack. Fees change on September 1st each year. Fees quoted are exclusive of VAT but includes the provision of the appropriate number of tests, Edexcel auditor/external verifier visits and certification.
