FAQs for Vehicle Immobilisation

I hold an SIA  Vehicle Immobilisers licence which expires this year what steps must I take to renew the licence?

You should have received a letter from the SIA informing you of the expiry date of your licence and what you need to do to apply for a new licence.
The SIA advise us that if you wish to renew your licence they strongly advise you to reapply as soon as possible.  Their normal process takes approximately six weeks, however CRB criminality checks and incorrectly completed applications can often extend this period.  Therefore to be sure of getting your new licence before the current one expires they encourage you to apply without delay.

If your application for renewal is successful and is processed before your Licence Expiry Date you will not be disadvantaged as the new licence will expire a year after your current licence expires.

You will need to fully complete a new application form, and re-submit your identification documents and a new passport sized photograph.  However you will not need to undergo any further training as your current qualifications will still be valid. The application fee remains at £190.

The SIA inform us that in the future they are developing a more streamlined process for renewals.

In order to obtain an application form to renew your licence, please contact the SIA on 08702 430 100 between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday or visit their website www.the-sia.org.uk
Please note that it is a criminal offence to work as a front line vehicle immobiliser without an SIA licence.  If you do work without a valid licence you could receive up to six months imprisonment and/or a fine up to £5000.
